Controlling the camera:
http://www.videojug.com/interview/controlling-the-camcorder-picture

Notes:

White balance: Find the white balance button on your camera and discover how it can be used.

Method: First, find something white in the scene (a shirt, a piece of paper, whatever). Zoom in until this white thing fills up at least 20 percent of the viewfinder. Then, push the white balance button. On most camcorders, you hold the button down until a light stops flashing--typically about 3 seconds or so.

How often should you white balance? Every time your lighting source changes.

Tutorial on white balance by Mike Browne (4min51s):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgyjxQxX_GI

Exposure: Camcorders can do on-the-fly brightness adjustments which could be undesirable. Learn to set brightness control to manual when you anticipate brief changes in brightness that could cause unnecessary overcorrection of exposure.
